Dr. Alfredo Borrero Vega

Alfredo Borrero Vega was born in Cuenca, Ecuador, on October 19, 1955. He has over 40 years of experience in medicine and healthcare administration. He graduated with honors as a Doctor in Medicine and Surgery from the Catholic University of Cuenca. He later studied Neurosurgery at the Mexican Institute of Social Security and completed a subspecialization in Spine Surgery at the Ochsner Clinic-Health System in New Orleans, United States. Additionally, he holds a Diploma in Health Administration from Harvard University, based in Boston, United States.

Dr. Borrero held executive positions in renowned private hospitals in Quito and founded the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of the Americas (UDLA), where he served as dean for several years. He was a board member of the Save Lives initiative, created by former Ecuadorian President Guillermo Lasso, through which $12 million in equipment, medications, and supplies were delivered to hospitals across the country during the COVID-19 pandemic.

On May 24, 2021, Dr. Borrero was sworn in at the National Assembly as the Constitutional Vice President of the Republic of Ecuador, after being elected alongside Guillermo Lasso as the Constitutional President of the Republic in the 2021 Presidential Elections. His work focused on strengthening the Health System. He served until November 23, 2023.

Currently, Dr. Borrero is the founding president of the Latin American Health Corporation, a non-profit organization that seeks to close healthcare gaps in Latin America through the design of Health Policies, resource channeling, and advocacy.
