Briefing for Permanent Missions to the United Nations in Geneva

 

The concept for the Global Surgery Foundation (GSF) was recently presented at a Briefing for Permanent Missions to the United Nations Office in Geneva. The event took place on 13 January at the World Health Organization and was hosted by the Permanent Missions of Switzerland and South Africa.

The Briefing included a panel discussion with remarks by Mr. Alex Mejia, Director of the Division for People and Social Inclusion at UNITAR, Dr. Teri Reynolds, Integrated Health Services at WHO, Dr. Lindiwe Makubalo, Health Attaché of the South African Permanent Mission to the UN, Mr. Miguel Perez-LaPlante Health Attaché of the Swiss Permanent Mission to the UN, Mr. Nikhil Seth UN Assistant Secretary-General and Executive Director of UNITAR, Dr. Geoff Ibbotson Executvie Director of GSF.

 
 
 
 

In addition, the Briefing included an overview of the Global Surgery Foundation, its vision, goals, and initial activities.

GSF formally requested the participating representatives to:

  1. Inform their Government that the GSF is interested to work with their Ministry of Health to improve surgical care.

  2. Explore opportunities for Government endorsements and partnerships.

  3. Provide feedback in regards to development of joint projects and joint resource mobilization.

The Briefing received great interest by the participating representatives and GSF is looking forward to working closely with the UN Memeber States.
