New Partnership between the Global Initiative For Children’s Surgery & UNITAR

28 August 2020, Geneva, Switzerland - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Division for People and Social Inclusion announced a new partnership with the Global Initiative for Children’s Surgery (GICS).

GICS, headquartered in the USA, is a consortium of stakeholders (providers, institutions, and allies) from both low-and-middle-income countries (LMICs) and high-income countries (HICs) alike. The organisation is committed to building capacities for safe surgical care for every child across the globe, encompassing services in all realms of children’s surgical care (including paediatrics, neurosurgery, intensive care, plastic surgery etc.). GICS envisions a future where every child has access to safe surgery, and UNITAR is glad to contribute to this vision.

Through this MoU, UNITAR, GSF, and GICS have committed to work towards developing innovative training and capacity-building to support the improvement of surgical care systems globally, and the sustainable development of global surgery, among other objectives. The MoU also extends to joint projects of mutual interest, fundraising, and organizing together international conferences, symposia, etc.

UNITAR is glad to work with GICS for the mission of ensuring and providing safe surgical care, in different realms of surgery, to every child in the world, and to contribute to the larger mission of improvement of global surgery.
