New Partnership With 2nd Chance
17 September 2020, Geneva, Switzerland - The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) Division for People and Social Inclusion is pleased to announce a new partnership with 2nd Chance, a Geneva-based non-profit organisation. The three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed within the context of the activities of UNITAR’s Global Surgery Foundation (GSF).
2nd Chance is dedicated to of improving patients’ access to reconstructive surgery care to restore the dignity of people affected by birth defects, deformities, burns and injuries, by sharing competences and empowering local teams in order to give patients in countries with lower access to medical and material facilities. The organization has been organizing and providing training in reconstructive surgery in Africa for the last 10 years, using a holistic medical approach. It also contributes to the creating a network of surgeons, provides pedagogical materials, and promotes regional development.
Through this MoU, UNITAR, GSF, and 2nd Chance have committed to work towards developing innovative training and capacity-building in global surgery and especially reconstructive surgery. The collaborating will also include national surgical, obstetrical and anaesthesia planning, exploring avenues of universal health coverage, and a focus on sustainable development in global surgery. The MoU also extends to joint projects of mutual interest, fundraising, and organizing together international conferences and symposia.
UNITAR and GSF are pleased to work with 2nd Chance towards the mission of improved safe surgical care and to contribute to the larger mission of sustainable development of surgical capacities.
