Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka has been named among the Top 30 African Female Voices.

According to africanfemalevoices, “African Female Voices presents the Top 30 African Female Bold Voices. These are African women who embody what it means to be an African Female Voice in their field of expertise.”

The Global Surgery Foundation congratulates Dr. Mlambo-Ngcuka on this achievement.


Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka is the former deputy president of South Africa and  the former United Nations Under-Secretary-General and Executive Director of UN Women. Starting off as a teacher,  Phumzile's work has echoed her passion for human rights, equality and social justice. She launched the #HeForShe campaign in 2017 an also also served a two-year term as member of the World Bank Group's (WBG) Advisory Council on Gender and Development.

In 2022, Dr. Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka was appointed to the GSF Foundation Board.
