Geneva, Switzerland – SURGhub, the award-winning United Nations Global Surgery Learning Hub, has achieved a major milestone, reaching 10,000 registered learners since its launch in June 2023. This achievement underscores the platform’s growing influence in advancing surgical education and supporting healthcare professionals worldwide.

Serving a Global Audience in Surgical Care

SURGhub reaches healthcare professionals from a variety of backgrounds, including surgeons, anesthesiologists, medical students, and non-clinical staff. This diversity reflects the platform’s ability to meet the educational needs of a wide range of users, in particular in areas with limited resources.

In just 18 months, SURGhub has connected 10,000 learners from across the globe. This year alone, the platform welcomed over 6,000 new learners, reflecting its expanding reach and the increasing demand for accessible, high-quality surgical training.

In 2024, healthcare workers completed over 15,000 course enrollments and earned more than 3,500 certificates on SURGhub. The platform’s most popular course, “Surgical Foundations” by COSECSA, has logged more than 57,000 hours (6.5 years) of study, showcasing its critical role in advancing surgical education.

SURGhub now supports learners in 188 countries, including over 1200 healthcare workers operating in conflict zones. This global footprint highlights the platform’s mission to make critical surgical education available to professionals in diverse and often challenging settings.

Partnerships, anchored in the United Nations

SURGhub collaborates with 20 content partners to provide 78 published courses, with 45 more under review. These partnerships allow experts to share their knowledge with a global audience, making it easier than ever to distribute specialized training. Through SURGhub’s innovative collaboration model, content partners benefit from instant access to SURGhub’s user base while retaining full ownership and control over their content.

Looking Ahead

Reaching 10,000 registered learners is just the beginning in our mission to make surgical training accessible everywhere. With continued growth and collaboration, the GSF and UNITAR remain committed to supporting healthcare professionals worldwide through SURGhub, ensuring they have the tools and knowledge needed to deliver quality care in every setting.
