New Partnership between the University of Global Health Equity & UNITAR
The United Nations Institute for Training and Research (UNITAR) and The University of Global Health Equity (UGHE) signed a three-year Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), committing to building the next generation of global health professionals into leaders and change-makers that strive to deliver more equitable, quality health services for building capacity in global surgery.
UGHE is an independent university, closely linked to Harvard’s Partners in Health (PIH), incorporated in Rwanda with a focus on practical experience outside the classroom. Many UGHE graduates serve as government officials developing innovative policies to expand life-saving programs. Clinicians who treat physical and social factors, and will lead programs and NGOs to improve health and save lives.
Lower middle-income countries (LMIC) with emerging economies are in high-demand for for surgical capacity. The Global Surgery Foundation will work with institutional partners, such as with UGHE, to create greater access to coverage and quality professional services.
Proper training for global health professionals needs to be empowered to reach UN Sustainable Development Goal #3: Good Health and Well-Being. Out of this mission, UNITAR and UGHE agree to pursue cooperation jointly.
UNITAR is eager to cooperate with UGHE in alignment with 2030 Agenda and to combine its expertise in training and capacity-building with the background of UGHE in developing global health professionals.
