The Global Surgery Foundation is partnering with GHA - German Health Alliance - and calls for German industry to join in closing the biggest gap in global health
The GSF, an alliance of leading global health partners, including Harvard Medical School and the United Nations, is partnering with the GHA, and is looking to work with the German healthcare industry to build the future of global health
Nearly one-third of all global health conditions require surgical treatment, yet today, over 5 billion of the world’s population – of whom 1.7 billion are children – lack access to surgical care – with devastating consequences. Surgically avertable conditions cause six times more deaths annually than HIV, malaria and tuberculosis combined.
The time has come to address this gross inequity and make surgical care accessible to all. The Global Surgery Foundation (GSF) was launched by the United Nations and Harvard Medical School at the 2020 World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos. It is a multistakeholder platform and alliance of the world’s leading surgical care organisations, which uses members’ first-hand medical expertise and established in-country relationships to transform evidence, strategic frameworks and political commitment into coordinated, momentum-driven and successfully funded action.
Investing in surgical services in low- and middle-income countries is affordable, lifesaving, and promotes economic growth. Harnessing partner relationships and the strengths of its platform to mobilize and channel funds where they are most needed, GSF is on the frontline assisting governments, surgical providers, and NGOs in delivering targeted, high-impact and cost-efficient interventions to upscale surgical care infrastructure in four clinical areas: maternal health, children’s surgery, trauma care, and cancer care.
The GSF is partnering with the GHA to help achieve significant impact globally in the efforts to increase access to surgical care for those who need it most. Germany’s role as a global leader in healthcare strengthening is well known and German Industry is very well positioned to play a pivotal role in making a significant impact in the countries where the need is greatest. Having German industry partners will be a gamechanger as we work towards achieving massive global impact - together. By working to strengthen healthcare systems through building surgical systems, German industry would be leading the way in making a significant impact on global health security.
The GSF is issuing a call to action for Germany’s world-leading healthcare industry to join us in making our vision reality: surgery for all who need it, wherever they need it.
